Fasteners-Nails and Screws
Traditionally trunk hardware was fastened with trunk nails, which were driven through the outer shell. They were then crimped over using a heavy object such as an old sad iron. The crimped over ends were then covered when the paper or fabric was installed. In order to be historically correct, you would need to use G112-G314 to fasten your hardware. If you are not planning on doing a complete restoration, you may choose to use wood screws in order to prevent interference with the interior of the trunk. Be sure to choose wood screws of an appropriate length, so they will not come through the core to the inside.
